Who’s future(s)? Interspecies and intersectional perspectives!
The artist and intervention collective ‘The Syndicate of Creatures’ work revolves around questioning ‘othering’ processes, starting with the othering of nature and the non-human, seeing this as ultimately auto-extinction. We question all forms of normativity in that it defines something as so called ‘normal’ and ’natural’.We oppose extraction and eradication of species, bodies, natures, cultures, futures and lands.Instead, we dream of centering care as the driving principle for all societal and individual relations. For this specific intervention, we have planned to instigate interactive conversations around challenging thoughts, like our work with hope in the post-apocalypse, by showcasing some artistic works and use conversations in groups and plenary. Firstly, we show a video piece called ‘the end of the world’ (3,20min), followed by poster-work made for a collaboration with the artist group ‘Pasaj’(Turkey)on censorship and definitions of freedom. With these artworks, we hope to evoke tensions between rationality and ‘the poetic’. Because we need to start other conversations; we need courage in these times of plural emergencies, to think new thoughts together and ultimately, to bring nuances to the expired concepts like ‘sustainability’.

Who's Future

Welcome everyone! Session w tSoC- Who's Futures? 4 Oct 2025

We are: Signe Vad –visual artist, curator, climate activist, etc

Michelle Appelros -Human Ecologist, musician/performer, activist

The Syndicate of Creature= Art. Political. Activism. Theory.

Othering process/ marginalization. Intersectional lens, ie intersecting marginalizations and groups (gender, sexuality, skin color, class, etcetera)

Queer theory (ecologies)/ ecofeminism = An ecofeminist perspective reveals the deep connection btw the oppression of nature and the oppression of women and other

marginalized groups. A queer theoretical framework critiques binary thinking; the division btw man/woman, nature/culture, human/nature so forth. Resist all normativity. Degrowth advocates/ a conflict position =strong justice perspective. Our work is centred around climate change, environmental ideas, and abstractly, human relations to “nature”. We argue against the naturality of anything.

Today: we will present 2 artworks. First we will read a dystopian poem called “Are you resisting?” afterwards we will show a video (3 min) called “End of the world”.

After this we will attempt to engage you in thinking playfully with us and conversate with each other.
